Sweet Pickle Books is a beloved, quirky independent bookstore on the Lower East Side, celebrated for its unique book-for-pickle exchange and vast collection of used books. Visitors praise the friendly staff and the store's one-of-a-kind atmosphere, though some note the prices can be a bit high and the space can have a musty aroma. It's a memorable spot for book lovers and those seeking unusual New York City experiences.
"Super cute and quirky used book store/pickle emporium buried in the LES, decent selection of used art books, which was the section I focused on, also hats/shirts/keychains etc all done up in fine style—definitely worth a browse if you’re in the area—friendly staff an added bonus even if you don’t buy anything you will leave feeling fulfilled. Happy 5th anniversary Sweet Pickle Books!"

"For used books, the prices are a bit high. Though I loved the wide selection and pickle themed items, I couldn't stay in the building for too long because of the aroma? It smelled a bit musty, unless that is the smell of books, it was more prominent in the back of the store. The walls are FILLED with books, so be prepared to feel a bit small. The CD selection is very retro and there were some VHS. There is limited seating available and pickle themed items included hats, keychains, and 4 types of pickles by the register."
Sarah Rose
"I came across this bookstore near the Tenement Museum. The concept is pretty cool — with music playing, quirky books, and even pickles — but the selection felt a bit thin. Still, it’s a fun little spot, and if you’re in the area, it’s worth a quick look."
