What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise The Shed for its striking modern architecture and diverse, thought-provoking artistic programming. The venue's adaptability and its integration with the Hudson Yards area, including the High Line, are frequently highlighted as positives. However, some immersive or narrative-heavy shows can be challenging to follow, leading to disappointment for certain audience members.
"I went to see The Brothers Size mainly because of its playwright, Tarell Alvin McCraney—the same mind behind the Oscar-winning film Moonlight. It also came recommended by a peer from my ACC fellowship, which made it even more compelling to check out.
The performance had an intensity that was both physical and poetic. The setting, body movement, and rhythm of the dialogue pulled the audience into its mood. The slang and exchanges gave a strong sense of community and culture, but I must admit, I missed parts of the plot as the vocabulary moved quickly, and the nuances of Black culture weren’t always deeply unpacked for someone less familiar. Still, that rawness gave the piece its authenticity.
This was also my first visit to The Shed. The venue itself is striking—modern, bold, and very much a part of New York’s evolving cultural landscape. Inside, the lounge bar felt surprisingly welcoming, with a chic atmosphere and an affordable menu that didn’t intimidate. It’s the kind of place where you can easily linger before or after a show.
I left thinking I’d like to return—perhaps for The Viola Room—if I can catch a discount ticket. The Brothers Size might not have fully landed with me in every moment, but it was an affecting introduction both to McCraney’s stage work and to The Shed as a performance space."

"Got under 30 year old tickets for World of Tmrw with Tom Hanks front row! Great value and amazing show! Acting was fantastic, the venue was clean and had plenty of staff directing you. Merch was inexpensive and cute for the show! A great venue and amazing atmosphere at the Shed and McCourt theater."

"The Shed is a new theater thst was built in Hudson Yards. There are various sized theaters inside The Shed and we’ve seen intimate productions in a small theater in the round as well as large scale plays and performances in their largest theater. My one complaint ( snd reason for 3 star) is that you have to be a member of The Shed to buy tickets for their performances. They have different levels of membership, at the most expensive, which might be $1,000. At this ldvdl, you get to buy tickets for one of their new productions as soon as tickets become available, I believe we paid around $100, so we had to wait a day or two after a nes production opens. Last yesr we paid $250 or $300 but realized that there would probably be plenty of seats to choose from without spending so much money. These additional charges helps to create an urgency to buy tickets for shows that might be a hit or a flop! And regardless of what level you pay for your membership, the tickets for their performances productions can still be very expensive! We recently saw a new show where we paid about $300 for tickets to a show that was a great disappointment ( for everyone in the sold out theater)! Given tbe number of members, it’s likely the show will be sold out for it’s entire run . And it’s likdly that most ( if not all) of the members bought their tickets when their “ level “ of membership, gave them the opportunity to buy their tickets. I think it might still be possible to buy tickets at a higher price once all the members have had an opportunity to purchase tickets and given the ridks of buying tickets to a flop, we won’t be renewing our membership next year! I’d rather pay more for a show that’s been reviewed!"
