What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the breathtaking coastal scenery and the unique experience of walking alongside historic Newport mansions. The free access and stunning ocean views are major highlights. However, some find the path challenging beyond the initial paved sections and note the lack of shade.
"The Cliff Walk in Newport is an absolute must for anyone who loves scenic walks. Starting from Forty Steps, the trail offers breathtaking views of the rugged coastline, with waves crashing against the rocks and a refreshing ocean breeze along the way. The walk took us a little over two hours to complete, and while it’s mostly easy, be sure to pack water and wear comfortable shoes—there’s very little shade. What makes this walk extra special is the chance to pass by some of Newport’s grand mansions. Don’t miss The Breakers, the crown jewel of them all. Highly recommended!"

"We had such a great time going for a family walk! The scenery is beautiful. The area is super clean. Easy parking access. You have to be ready to walk! I wish we had places like these back home to go for a walk/run. There's also plenty of things to do in the area. We came here after lunch and it was only 5 ish minutes away from the restaurants nearby!"

"These are paved steps from cliff walk to the sea. Going down there is neat but nothing too special. The area before the steps provided restrooms, a water dispenser for bottles and area info including a map for the Cliff Walk. Parking is paid at the kiosks by the restroom. You can walk north in the Cliff Walk no problem but as of September 2025 the path south is closed and you need to Detour a block inland to continue. The walk itself is scenic and easy until a certain point where the path pavement ends."
