What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise The River Golf Club for its challenging, fast greens and unique railroad track holes. The clubhouse offers lovely views, and the practice greens are well-maintained. However, some find the driving range conditions inconsistent, and the greens can be challenging to read due to varying speeds.
"Terrific time here! Greens were fast and receptive. Very lovely clubhouse overlooking the golf course and views of Augusta in the background. My favorite two stretches of holes were alongside an old railroad track. Definitely had more of a very flat for the area. topographically but very fun course. Definitely was a a really pleasant round of golf and would highly recommend this course to anyone."
Noel Hayes
"While visiting the area, decided to practice and play The River course on 3\4\24.
For early March both the practice facilities and the golf course were in great shape. The practice facilities consist of a grass driving range, a putting green and a chipping green. All were in first class condition.
The course is relatively flat. The course is challenging but fair. You will not be bored playing this course. Any lapse in concentration will be penalized. Most of the greens are protected by sand traps.
The greens were some of the best putting surfaces I have ever played on. Great condition and lightning fast."
Michael Branche
"My experience at The River Golf Club was memorable, and I enjoyed every aspect from the 1st hole to the 18th hole. Each hole offered a unique layout, presenting varying challenges that demanded thoughtful consideration of strategy. The course condition, for the most part, was great. However, the greens rolled inconsistently from one to another. Additionally, the practice range was in rough shape, with the strip of grass available for practice mostly covered in divots and seeded sand. Overall, I would recommend a visit to The River Golf Club."

Navigating The River Golf Club's Greens
While the overall condition is highly rated, some reviews note that the speed and roll can be inconsistent from one green to another. This variability can be a test of adaptability. For those looking to hone their putting skills, the practice green is available, though it's always a good idea to get a feel for the course's specific nuances during your round. Mastering these greens is key to a successful score at The River Golf Club. :golf_ball:
The Unique Charm of the Railroad Track Holes
These stretches often present a flatter topography but can still be challenging due to the need for accurate ball striking. Straying too far from the fairway can lead to difficult lies or out-of-bounds situations. Golfers often find these holes memorable, providing excellent photo opportunities and a talking point long after the round is over. It's a testament to the course's design that it incorporates such interesting historical elements into its layout. :train2:
Practice Facilities: A Mixed Bag
However, the driving range can be a point of contention. While long enough for full swings, some visitors report that the grass hitting area can be heavily divoted and covered in sand, especially during busy periods. This can make for a less-than-ideal practice session for some. If you're planning to spend significant time on the range, it might be worth checking recent conditions or focusing more on your short game on the other practice areas. :golf_cart:
