Backpacking to North Dome in Yosemite 🏕️🍕🏞️ What an amazing trip! I’ve been to North Dome probably ten times, and it’s still one of my favorite spots in Yosemite. This trip was supposed to be to the top of El Capitan, but after not sleeping well in Camp 4 the night before, I woke up late on Saturday. I had to pick up my permit, and while I was on the way there, I thought about it and decided to ...

Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise North Dome for its challenging yet incredibly rewarding hikes and the unparalleled panoramic views of Half Dome and Yosemite Valley. The opportunity for overnight camping and stargazing is a major highlight. Some find the trail markings unclear near the summit, and parking can be limited, requiring early arrival.

"This trail offers a fantastic workout with stunning views at the end. While parking can be limited, we found the trail relatively quiet, which was a nice change. The hike itself is challenging, with the incline becoming steep fairly quickly. However, the effort is well worth it. We found the app's map to be invaluable, especially in areas where the trail wasn't clearly marked. The trail itself is in excellent condition, making the hike enjoyable despite the difficulty. If you're looking for a rewarding challenge with breathtaking scenery, this trail is definitely worth checking out."

Bruno Diaz

"Fantastic, challenging, but incredibly rewarding hike from Porcupine Creek Trailhead through beautiful terrain and magnificent trees, followed by a descent from one dome and climb onto North Dome will reward you with some of the most magnificent views in the park!"

Dave Sykes

"It's a long hike, nearly 9 miles, but relatively little elevation change compared to a lot of other mountain trails. Get there early to ensure a parking spot along Tioga Road. The trailhead is clearly marked at the beginning and it's an easy hike through the forest. The trail is not as clearly marked when you approach North Dome, but you can see where you need to go to reach the end point. Your effort will be rewarded with stunning views of Half Dome and Yosemite Valley. It doesn't get any better in Yosemite. Don't forget to take plenty of food, water, and sunscreen. We forgot the latter and I paid the price."
