Reviews Summary

Visitors find the Oak of the Golden Dream to be a historically significant site, offering a glimpse into California's early gold rush. While the tree itself is understated, its story and the surrounding Placerita Canyon's natural beauty and wildlife center are highly appreciated. Some note that the historical narrative is the main draw, rather than the tree's physical presence alone. Reddit+1

"It's an oak tree..... It's a lovely tree but that isn't the draw. The appeal, qt least toe, is the idea of the story. The history behind it, even of it has been altered over time. Francisco Lopez took took a nap under it in 1842, years before the Sutters Mill gold strike. He dreamt that he was floating on gold. When he woke he pulled some wild onions, saw gold flakes. True or not it's an interesting story and since I'm a local important to the city of Santa Clarita and a diversion to the hiking and sightseeing at the Placarita Canyon wildlife Center that it's part of."

Kevin Webb

"A very interesting glimpse into early CA history; a pre-1849 gold rush in Placerita Canyon."

Gary Smith

"Under this oak tree on his brother-in-law's property in 1842, Francisco López y Arbello fell asleep and had a dream he discovered gold and was made an extremely wealthy man. When he awoke, he went to pick some nearby wild onions and found clinging to their roots flecks of gold - it was the first documented discovery of gold in California, initiating the California Gold Rush and giving the 49ers their name.

The tree is located about .3 miles in on a small trail that's super doable with some interesting historical artifacts along the way. Very beautiful spot and a super amazing part of California history."
