Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Leadbetter Point State Park for its extensive, diverse loop trail and abundant wildlife viewing opportunities. However, many warn of intense mosquito populations and the strict 'no dogs' rule in the wildlife refuge areas, which can limit exploration for pet owners.

"Very level day hike. It's definitely a 4-6 hr loop but fantastic nonetheless. NO DOGS ALLOWED 🙌

"I think it is weird when nature gets less than 5 stars. We went on a rain Saturday and had the trail to ourselves. We did the dune forest trail with our dog and it was lovely. Plenty of weird mushrooms to look at and I’m sure there’s some edible ones if you know what to look for. I could see this being a mosquito heavy zone in warmer months."

"Wide open spaces for lots of hiking and bird watching but oh my, bring bug spray! Google Maps is a little deceiving though. While part of the point is the State Park, there is also a large section that is part of the Willapa National Wildlife Refuge. Between the two, there are 2 small parking lots, a couple pit toilets and a State Parks Discover Pass is required for parking in both lots. There is a map of all of the trails available at the parking lots as well as signs throughout the trail system that give directions. The signs on the trail we took were old but at least they gave directions for each trail. Someone took time to mark the trails, which was great. The short walk we took we saw lots of great blue herons, sandpipers and a few cormorants. While the State Parks website states that dogs are welcome, when you get to the Wildlife Refuge, it says that dogs are not allowed. We don't have a dog so it's not something we had to worry about but thought I would mention it. It's a beautiful place to visit. We did see deer while driving through the park and refuge, actually we saw them all over the Long Beach Peninsula so be careful driving."
