"This is an excellent place to bring a kid. I visit a lot of playgrounds, and there’s a couple things I generally look for. Most playgrounds will have a jungle gym, many slides, climbing walls, etc and John West Park definitely has those. But not every park has swings (my 2 y/o is a devotee) and, most crucially, so many playground lack adequate shade. John West Park is built among a group of mature trees, so very nearly the entire play area is shaded. This is an absolute godsend on hot summer days.
Otherwise, the playground is in great shape and has so many different options. There were some climbing wall types and other equipment that I haven’t seen anywhere else. There’s also a small play storefront area with door frames and windows for make believe play.
Beyond that, this is a great park. There are picnic tables, and benches that double as swings. There are trash and recycling receptacles spaced around. There’s even a small exercise circuit area. Parking was convenient, and there were ample spots, at least when we visited.
Basically, if you’re in the area and looking for a playground to visit, look no further."
