What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Goat Hill Park is widely praised for its unique, laid-back vibe and challenging, hilly terrain that tests golfers' short game. Visitors appreciate its dog-friendly policy and community feel, though some note the course's narrow fairways and the presence of disc golf can impact pace of play.
"A really laid back and fun course. It’s quite challenging with lots of hills and valleys. Some holes have almost not fairway and the longer holes have hazards forcing you to play short. The carts, fairways, and greens are all in great shape. The overall vibe is very laid back and working class. The clubhouse was nice and very friendly. The only issue I had was someone didn’t clean up after their dog on one of the fringes of the green. This feels like a pillar of the community. Somewhere for people to get outside and have some fun together."

"One star less just because it only had one par 5 and the rest were mostly 3’s. Up, down, ravine, short, narrow, all of the above short game necessary and good greens. Undulation on a major scale. Also very narrow. A few holes were really on top of each other. Not sure about the ocean views but the weather was fantastic."

"I took the opportunity to play disc golf here as I've seen it on the pro tour and it's an iconic course. Also a bit notorious because it requires a very strong arm.
It was a nice course and enjoyable but I won't return. There's not much thought given to disc golf in the day to day operation, most notably the signs are old and unreadable, and it's hard to find tee pads (you're lucky if it's not almost completely worn out).
Regular golfers are nice and generally understanding but it's going to be a very very long round unless you jump around or get a string of nice groups that wave you through."

The Unique Challenge of Goat Hill Park's Terrain
This challenging terrain is part of what gives Goat Hill Park its character and reputation. It's not a course for the faint of heart or those seeking a leisurely stroll without any strategic thought. The constant ups and downs, combined with the tight fairways, ensure that every shot matters. Players often find themselves playing from uneven lies, adding another layer of difficulty. The course design forces golfers to think strategically about each approach, often opting for safer, shorter shots to avoid hazards or out-of-bounds areas.
For those who embrace the challenge, Goat Hill Park offers a rewarding experience. The unique layout provides a memorable round that stands out from more traditional, flatter courses. The combination of elevation, narrowness, and tricky greens makes it a place where golfers can truly hone their skills and enjoy a distinctive round of golf.
Goat Hill Park: A Community Cornerstone
The park is also celebrated for being pet-friendly, allowing golfers to bring their canine companions along for the round. This feature adds to the welcoming and relaxed atmosphere, making it a popular spot for locals and visitors alike who want to enjoy the outdoors with their pets. The community aspect is further enhanced by events like 'Mandatory Golf Fridays' and the 'Grass League Summer Grind,' which bring people together for friendly competition and social gatherings.
This blend of accessible golf, community engagement, and a distinctive coastal vibe makes Goat Hill Park a special place. It offers a refreshing alternative to more corporate or exclusive golf experiences, prioritizing fun, connection, and the simple joy of being outdoors. It's a place where golf is enjoyed in a truly authentic and inclusive setting.
Disc Golf at Goat Hill Park: A Shared Space
For disc golfers, the course is known for requiring a very strong arm due to its layout and potential for wind. However, some reviews suggest that the disc golf infrastructure, such as signage and tee pads, could be better maintained. Navigating the course and finding tee pads can sometimes be a challenge. It's important for both disc golfers and regular golfers to be mindful and courteous of each other to ensure a smooth experience for everyone.
When visiting Goat Hill Park, be aware of the shared space. Disc golfers are often seen playing on the course, and it's advisable for regular golfers to be patient and communicate effectively to maintain a good pace of play. This shared environment is part of what makes Goat Hill Park a multifaceted recreational destination.
