Any areas to avoid when looking for apartments?
Hey guys, I'll be moving to Ogden from the east coast in a few weeks after only visiting once before. Curious if there are any areas you guys would recommend avoiding as I look for apartments. Currently looking at places on 17th street and on 27th/28th streets and I'm wondering…

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Bigelow Hotel Ben Lomond is a historic landmark with a grand lobby and great views, offering an on-site Irish pub and free breakfast for hotel guests. However, apartment renters report significant issues with utility billing, lack of AC, and basic kitchen amenities, leading to dissatisfaction despite the building's charm and location.
"Beware if you rent here you will be paying $500+ more than what the rent is. My rent is $1295 yet I’m paying nearly $1900 a month due to the unfair utility billing system they use. They have it divided by occupancy, yet have people illegally living here. Wonder how many I’m paying for that aren’t paying anything? You’re paying for everyone else, including the disruptive weddings that are here every single weekend. They take up all of the parking, are rude and loud, and keep the front doors propped open where all the cold air goes right out the door and believe me you’ll pay for it on your electric bill. Plus anyone can just walk right into the building. The apartments don’t have lighting in the bedrooms so there’s no reason for that high of an electric bill. I’m also paying for them to maintain the grounds when there’s a garbage bag next to the dumpster that’s been there for 3 weeks and dog crap literally everywhere, even the entrance to the lobby. No one is maintaining anything. You’ve been warned! For $1900 a month you can get a luxury apartment you don’t have to share with people having a wedding at your residence."

"This is a Historic hotel. Beautiful interior lobby. The nightly rooms are spacious. There are also residents rooms. (I didn't get to see any of them.) Beautiful views from the rooms. We liked the hotel so much we stayed an additional two nights. They serve breakfast too in the morning. Yummy!"

"Do you like living in a sauna? How about heat exhaustion or heat stroke? This building has NO AC, keeping it constantly at about 85 degrees INDOORS, one elevator is regularly not working, there’s no way of keeping bugs out if you open a window, and if you like about $500 of extra fees on top of your base rent, then good. More than one person has said that manager, Michelle only cares about her bottom line, people are moving out because of her. The hot water goes at random, sometimes for days at a time. The laundry facilities are a joke, you pay what you would at a laundromat for smaller machines, and the dryers don’t even get your things dry the first time. They care more about “unauthorized use” of the freight elevator than they do about air conditioning. And don’t even get me started on the pathetic “kitchen” in most units. A two burner smooth range hub, and a microwave is all you get. No dishwasher. No oven. No counter space. You can get a two to three bedroom unit elsewhere for the price of a one bedroom here. The only good thing is how secure the building is, because I’ve had to let cops in after the office closed. Literally, only good thing. It’s a historically protected building that requires upkeep, even to cosmetic things like paint, but it’s not being done. Biggest mistake I have ever made to move in."
