What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Newell Creek Canyon Nature Park for its beautiful waterfall, well-maintained trails, and peaceful, shaded atmosphere. Many appreciate the free admission and parking. However, some find the hilly terrain challenging, especially the return hike, and the limited parking can be an issue. The no-dog policy is also a drawback for some. :star2:
"Free parking, well maintained gravel trails, beautiful small waterfall, don't wear new shoes, no pups allowed. Keep active everyone!"

"I just visited today for the first time. What a beautiful park! Thank you to Metro for creating this splendid oasis just a short drive from Portland. It's a refreshing change to see my tax dollars producing something tangible and meaningful. The sun was shining, the birds were flying/ singing, and the trees were serene. It wasn't crowded even on a sunny Sunday spring afternoon. I couldn't have asked for better. There was a good amount of shade, which will be a welcome respite in warmer months. A couple visitors violated the posted signage/ rules and brought dogs but at least they were leashed. I wasn't expecting the park to be quite so hilly, but I really enjoyed the easy hike. There were quite a few muddy spots, particularly on the Canyon Spring Loop, so I would advise wearing hiking shoes or shoes with good tread until we dry out. We followed the Shady Lane trail to the waterfall/ bridge, then went to the Canyon Spring Loop via the Tumble Falls trail. My companion is normally pretty sedentary and found the modest hills challenging, particularly the return to the parking lot. We had to stop for her to rest quite a few times. What goes down must come back up! Just beware that this isn't a flat nature walk, especially the Canyon Spring Loop. I want to return soon by myself or with somebody more active and experience the rest of the trails."

"Nice enough park. Limited parking so come spring and summer I can see that becoming a major problem. No dogs allowed which is unfortunate. Trails are down hill leaving the parking area. The hikers only loop is mostly mud trails compared to the gravel trails that are shared between hikers and mountain bikers. The falls here are very nice and can be peaceful. Overall will return to go through it again. Would come back sooner if they allow dogs in the future."
