What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Pacific Beach State Park for its stunning beachfront camping and expansive, uncrowded sandy shores, perfect for long walks and kite flying. The minimal light pollution offers incredible stargazing opportunities. However, some reviewers note concerns about the cleanliness and maintenance of restrooms and showers, and tent campers may experience less privacy.
"Great views and beach walks. Restrooms and showers are another story. One stall (total of 2 open in the entire campground) was covered in feces during our entire 5 day stay .... so no cleaning of restrooms obviously. Constant flow of vagrants/homeless using the 2 showers. Again, no cleaning in the 5 days we were there."

"OMG! LOVE this spot. It's literally just a parking lot, but the real treat is just over a small hill... most of the camp sites but up against the beach and offer amazing ocean views. Pacific Beach is a pretty small town with very little light pollution... I woke up in the middle of the night and the stars were absolutely incredible, you could see the milky way!"

"One of the best places along yhe washington coast to camp in an RV. It's close to the beach with views from campsite. Sites Have 50 amp service. Water and sewer dump are available by exit. I would not recommend for tent camping unless you don't mind camping next to big RV's."

👨👩👧 Families with Kids
While camping, RV sites offer a comfortable base, and tent sites provide a more rustic experience. Be mindful of the potential for limited privacy between sites. The nearby town of Pacific Beach offers basic amenities and a small grocery store for essentials. Pack plenty of snacks and drinks, as dining options are limited. Consider bringing beach toys and games to maximize the fun.

Camping at Pacific Beach State Park
For tent campers, the experience is also beach-centric, though some reviews suggest a lack of privacy due to proximity to larger RVs. It's advisable to book sites strategically if privacy is a concern. During the off-season, especially in March, some sites might be affected by rain and potential flooding, so checking conditions is key. Portable gas or propane fire pits are allowed at campsites, adding to the cozy camping atmosphere.
Key takeaway: While RV camping is highly praised for its convenience and views, tent campers should manage expectations regarding privacy. Booking in advance is crucial, and checking the weather and site conditions, particularly during the wetter months, is a wise precaution.
Exploring the Beach and Coastline
Beyond just walking, the beach is a fantastic place for activities like kite flying, thanks to the consistent coastal breezes. The park is also situated in an area with very little light pollution, making it an exceptional location for stargazing. On clear nights, the Milky Way is often visible, offering a breathtaking celestial display that complements the ocean's grandeur.
Pro tip: Don't miss the opportunity to explore the coastline at different times of the day. Sunrise and sunset offer dramatically different, yet equally beautiful, photographic opportunities. The Joe Creek, forming the southern boundary, adds another natural element to explore.
Understanding Park Facilities and Local Amenities
For dining and groceries, the park is adjacent to the small town of Pacific Beach. A short walk uphill brings you to the town, where you can find basic grocery stores and casual eateries. While the town offers convenience, it's a small community, so options are limited. Bringing your own food and drinks is often the most practical approach, especially for longer stays or if you prefer specific items.
Important note: While the park offers a natural escape, the nearby town provides necessary amenities. Be aware of the potential for inconsistent facility maintenance and plan your food supplies accordingly.
