"It's hard to describe the beauty of the rock formations and river at the Lake Powell Lookout, located about a mile from Glen Canyon Dam, and close to 4 hotels in the area (Sleep Inn, Bayview Inn, Homewood Suites and Wyndham). You can walk there from the 4 hotels mentioned, or drive at sunrise or sunset. We chose to view the sunset from here. You can either view it from the parking lot area, or venture 100 steps or so down below to view it closer to the river.
Wear comfortable shoes as the stairs are not quite "stairs" but formed out of rocks. Gorgeous views any time of day, but especially at sunset."
