"⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Guardsmans Pass Overlook – A Must-See in the Wasatch!
This overlook is an absolute must if you’re visiting Park City or exploring the Wasatch Mountains. The views are jaw-dropping—lush green valleys, dense forests, and endless mountain peaks stretching into the horizon. It’s the kind of place that makes you stop, breathe deep, and just take it all in.
It’s easily accessible by car (though the road can be narrow and winding), and there’s enough space to pull off and enjoy the scenery safely. Great for a quick photo stop or as a starting point for longer hikes and bike rides along the Wasatch Crest Trail.
Pro tip: Go during golden hour or just after sunrise—pure magic. It’s open 24/7, so it’s also a serene stargazing spot if you’re up for a nighttime adventure.

"A friend told us about the Pass outside of Park City and it has amazing views and really great hiking trails. We were told by a few people that the signs that are posted regarding no parking and being told is true. There are quite a few places to park and we drove the entire loop but parts of it are shutdown in winter. Some of the hotels look incredible. The road is very winding."

"This is a beautiful roadway! Just two weeks ago while attending a concert in Deer Valley, we took Guardsman's Pass late at night because of road construction concerns through Parley's Canyon. No traffic, dark as can be, LOTR kind of a feeling. 😁 The road is all in good shape. I'm definitely going to come back in the daytime on my Harley. 🙏❤️"

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
For families with young children, shorter, flatter trails near the base of the byway or accessible from easier access points can be more manageable. The sheer beauty of the landscape, especially during fall, can captivate children's imaginations. Ensure everyone is dressed in layers, as mountain weather can be unpredictable, and bring plenty of snacks and drinks to keep energy levels up.
📸 Photography Enthusiasts
For the best light, aim for the golden hours around sunrise and sunset. These times offer soft, warm illumination that enhances the natural beauty and creates dramatic shadows. Consider bringing a wide-angle lens for expansive scenes and a telephoto lens for potential wildlife shots. Remember to check the weather forecast, as dramatic skies can add an extra layer of interest to your photographs.
🚴♀️ Outdoor Adventurers
It's crucial for adventurers to be well-prepared. This includes having appropriate gear for the activity, ample water and food, and a reliable navigation method. Due to the remote nature of some areas, informing someone of your plans and expected return time is highly recommended. Always practice Leave No Trace principles to preserve the natural beauty of the area.

The Magic of Fall Foliage

Beyond the visual feast, the crisp mountain air and the quiet solitude (especially on weekdays) make this a truly immersive experience. It's a perfect opportunity for photographers, nature lovers, and anyone seeking a scenic escape. Just be prepared for potentially limited parking at popular viewpoints and trailheads during peak season.

Whether you're looking for a leisurely stroll through alpine meadows or a strenuous climb to a summit, you'll find options here. Always carry essentials like water, snacks, sun protection, and a map, as cell service can be spotty in the mountains.
Parking at the popular trailheads can be a significant challenge, especially on weekends. Visitors are advised to arrive very early in the morning or consider visiting on a weekday to increase their chances of finding a spot. Be aware of any posted parking regulations to avoid tickets or towing.
