Whenever we travel, we always try to find trails to explore. Keyhole Sink trail was 10 minutes from the cabin, so we decided we couldn't pass up the opportunity to check it out even though it was pretty chilly and really mudddy. It's always neat when the trail ends with petroglyphs. #keyholesink #williamsaz #petroglyphs

"What a great short hike, the petroglyphs were just amazing. The walk in and out let us have great sites we do not see in Maine. Definitely worth the trip !!"

"This is a hike of a few thousand steps each way. I was counting but was distracted. The trail has been worn down to rocky in several places. Along the trail is mullein. Great medicinal plant for lungs. At the secluded spring at the end is a bunch of yarrow.

Before i saw the standing water i knew the was water close underground because of the aspen stand or whatever the name is of the white-barked tree in the keyhole sink.

While walking toward the sink i noticed 3 elk grazing a hillside off to the left. Saw them before they saw me. When they did see me they stared, and when i moved they moved along.

Peaceful spot.

The type of place Louis L'Amour would add to a story."

Brian Cantley

"Free easy trail with clear blue blazer markings. There's two gates along this trail held closed with simple chains hooked on nails. The first one is at the road, and the second is before the watering hole itself. Depending on how much rain there's been, there could be no visible water or a solid muddy pond. At the watering hole there are two distinct spots with petroglyphs, one of them requires climbing up on a couple rocks to see. The trail is easy but most of it is rocky, good for kids and dogs but not wheelchair accessible and wouldn't recommend biking on this trail. There's a pamphlet box on a tree near the entrance that's easy to miss, and an information board right before the second gate."
