"This is a private residence not open to the public for indoor viewing. The house is an example of the fine homes built by those Peorians of the nineteenth century who prospered in commerce. This particular home on the corner of Moss Avenue and High Street was constructed in 1858 by William Bush. Bush came to Peoria and entered the brickmaking business and later owed his own brickyard. He then ventured into the prosperous distilling business so widespread in Peoria at the time and owned one of the more successful distilleries, Bush and Brown Distilling Company. The style of this home is termed "Bracketed Italianate". The kind gentleman who owns this home happened to be sitting on the porch when I came by and told me the history of the home and the surrounding neighborhood. A very interesting conversation. Now remember, this is a private home and the owner is not a tour guide so this isn't like a museum. It's to be viewed from the outside on your own. There are many magnificent homes throughout this neighborhood giving a glimpse of Peoria's history."
