What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Apple Hill for its festive fall atmosphere, delicious apple treats like donuts and pies, and family-friendly activities. The scenic beauty and variety of offerings across numerous farms make it a beloved annual tradition. However, be prepared for significant crowds and parking challenges, especially on weekends in October, which can detract from the experience for some.
"Have been coming to Apple Hill for close to 30 years now, it is an absolute must-do in the fall!!! Highly recommend going wine tasting, there are some incredible wineries throughout the area!! High Hill Ranch is probably our favorite, but Rainbow Ranch, Boa Vista Orchards and Able's Acres are also must-visit places for us to get cider, apple donuts and fritters, plus all of the amazing crafts. It is busy in the fall so pack your patience and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Great place to bring the kids and get some great pictures."

"Great fall getaway. Visited the various farms; many of which have arts & crafts on site. You can buy a variety of baked goods, cider, and wide range of fruit. Apples & pears were in abundance. We hit a couple of wineries as well. As my pallette is used to Napa blends, the wines over all were either too tart or sweet for our liking, but the settings were beautiful with color changing vines, trees and vistas.
We stayed locally and ate at two nice restaurants . The first was the Sutter Street Steakhouse. While not cheap, it was fairly priced compared to the Bay Area. The other was Zocalo-Folsom, a unique Mexican Restaurant. Their housemade tortillas are a corn/flour blend. I would get corn in future to go with the chile Verde, which great. The interior was nicely decorated, and service was great as well.
Stop in downtown Placerville (aka Hangtown). Cute shops with typical mountain town items-but isnt that why you go? Start at Sweetie Pies for breakfast too.
Tips-print the Apple Hill map out to chart your day. You can pull up info on each so you're not overly duplicating.
Go midweek if you're able. By Friday, we were leaving, but everything was getting crowded.
Bring a cooler/ice for cider, frozen bakery items."
