What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Reviews for the Port Aransas jetty boat experience are mixed. While some praise the scenic ride, dolphin sightings, and the peacefulness of San Jose Island, others report issues with rude staff and disappointing fishing charter experiences. The lack of amenities on San Jose Island is a recurring point, requiring visitors to be well-prepared.
"So not a good experience. First off the captain was cool as hell. Spent almost 300 to go on a boat and watch the crew catch king fish off the back of boat while every one else gave up. A hour into it there was nothing but small fish taking bait. So everyone sat down. Literally only 5 or 6 people trying to fish. Finally the captain moved the boat because radar said no fish. Move to new spot crew catches more kingfish off the back. 30 minutes in new spot then back to dock. The crew got to use good needle fish to fish with and everyone else squid. So I’m glad we financed a fishing trip for the crew….go some where else."

"Took the ferry out to San Jose Island for a wonderful day! Beach is peaceful and beautiful. There are no amenities so go prepared! Water etc. The waves are gentle so great for children. The short ride was nice even saw dolphins!"

"Jetty boat takes 5 minutes to reach the pier. Basically people can fish on the pier just like boat fishing near by (see pictures). Pelicans are waiting for easy catches as well. The beach of the island was not well maintained (or too many people are leaving trash around). The seashore has some potential but is not yet developed for normal tourists. Unless fishing is the main goal (without using boats), I don't see why one would pay to get to the island for the so-so beach."
