Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Central Library's stunning architecture and unique visual illusions, making it a photographer's paradise. While the extensive book collection and resources are appreciated, some find the library's role as a resource for the unhoused community impacts the quiet study atmosphere. Staff are generally helpful, but policies can sometimes feel restrictive.
"Multnomah County Central Library was a great trip! It was my first time there, and I was pleasantly surprised by how big it was. It's a three-story library. Everything is very nicely organized; it's easy to find different categories and genres of books. They have plenty of resources, such as computers and private rooms for writing, etc. Unhoused people do use this place quite often. If you live locally, you can check out up to 100 books; I believe you just need to log in to one of their computers, and they can print you a library card. You just need an ID and a local address."

"The library was able to get me the Omni magazine from 1980 and also to read a 2004 microfilm congressional hearing on Lunar Science! However, I generally cannot use it for reading or study because de facto it's a homeless shelter."

"Great place to study if you’re in school also more importantly that there is a lot of homeless hanging around this library. A lot of unusual activity that goes on. It’s kind of what it is in this particular library, but the staff are very friendly. They can help you find whatever books and literature that you’re trying to look for"
