What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors generally have a very positive experience at Rail Explorers, praising the unique concept, beautiful coastal views, and fun atmosphere. The staff are often noted as friendly and organized. Some minor disappointments include the darkness during the Lantern Ride and occasional wait times, but overall, it's considered a highly recommended activity for families and couples seeking an outdoor adventure.
"Really enjoyed this Rail Explorers ride. The only thing a bit disappointing was the fact it was a lantern lit night experience and there was only the lantern on your car which cast no light so you were peddling for miles in almost complete darkness. Other then that it was fun. I feel they should have referred to it as a spooky night tour :) we got there early had to wait an extra half hour to board due to people showing up late. We finally boarded around 8pm and start the ride which is 3 miles until you get to a outdoor firepit area set up to roast marshmallows that lasts 45 minutes it was nice over looking the water. Then you ride 3 miles back so we got back to our car 10/1015. If you like nature and exercise its a fun thing to do. Ive been to other rail trails during the day and did find it to be different. Enjoyed it all the same"

"Definitely a very organized rail ride enjoyable and fun experience! After a 5 minute tuitoral regarding safety, braking, and safety precautions We were the last car in line with about 10 cars in front of us. They space each car a hundred feet apart for safety precautions..
You must be able to pedal 1 1/2 miles up to rest area with a 20 minute break while the cars are turned around then pedal back 1 1/2 miles back..I was sore for a few days after.."

"This was a great experience. Not being from RI it was a nice to experience something different in Newport. The staff was great, the check-in process was great. Only thing that would’ve been better was the weather but can’t control that. Very fun idea on how to explore the rails. Fun for families or couples. Highly recommend."
