Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Kisatchie Bayou Recreation Area for its beautiful, clear waters and abundant fish, making it a relaxing day trip or primitive camping spot. The unique mesa formations nearby are a surprising highlight. However, some recent reviews note areas can become overgrown, and the lack of amenities like running water requires thorough preparation.

"Drove to kisatchie national forest not really knowing where to go, just knew we wanted to do some fishing, after a quick google search the bayou campgrounds seemed like what we were looking for.
Still hesitant on what we were gonna find when we got there it was better than i expected, after a 20ish minute drive down a red gravel road you’ll find a little parking lot and down the steps is the bayou. Which I’m from the Midwest so to me it more resembled a big creek. There is a few small water falls and a white sand. The water is exceptionally clear, looking more like a black water fish tank with all the tannins in it. And sooo many fish, sitting in the water they come up and nibble your legs.
Even caught a few bass and some what I assume sunfish.
Overall a very relaxing day trip, and definitely will come back to do some primitive camping.
There is a primitive bathroom and trash cans available as well as picnic tables and bbq pits. No running water or electricity hook ups, and the only down side is the phone service is bad but what can you expect when you go that deep in nature."

5 stars We camped here for 3 days, it was a lot of fun, there is bathrooms but I would recommend doing it in the woods. there is NO DRINKING WATER, so be sure you have enough to cover the time you’ll be there. there is about 15-20 campsites but i seen people camping on sand bars so you can camp anywhere I guess, its pretty quiet after 9pm and up to 8am a lot of long walking trails i seen spots for hammocks lots of wildlife lots of shade not a lot of bugs so that was nice the water isn’t that deep in most spots but some places are about 15ft deep I would recommend for anyone to come camp here with or without kids"

"Primitive camping at its best. This spot is beautiful, the stream that runs through it is nice and clean, we swam in it, bathed in it and even caught enough fish out of it for dinner the first night (catfish and bass) no electricity, no potable water and one valt bathroom for those afraid to take a dump in the woods. Our little dogs also approve of this campground."
