Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Alligator Creek Preserve for its beautiful, wild nature and abundant wildlife sightings, noting it as a peaceful escape with free entry. However, some find the limited hours of the visitor center and butterfly house disappointing, and the presence of numerous mosquitoes requires significant preparation.

"I will say a beautifully "wild" place to hike/walk, although I did hear a wild boar snort in the thicket which made my hair stand up on the back of my neck! The last three days I've been there for 3 to 4 mile hikes, I've only encountered 2 other hikers, so you're basically on your own. Enjoy, but be aware of your surroundings!"

"Nice hike today. Three lakes trail was closed. Didn’t check to see if the eagle point trail was open yet. We did the pine Flatwoods trail which came to about 1.6 miles from the parking lot and back. The trail was pretty muddy in spots but navigable. Trail was very well marked. Mostly flat and accessible but with some roots here and there. Lots of cute bridges. We saw a gator at the alligator pond and an armadillo on the trail.

We didn’t explore the buildings but there’s a visitor center and a butterfly house. We peeked through the screens at the butterflies and they were beautiful.

Hard to believe this place was free when we’ve paid to park at less developed parks."

"I came during the open hours and everything was closed. The visitor center, the butterfly garden, and the gift shop all closed. I was really hoping to spend time there but not a soul to be seen
anywhere.looks like a great place if they were open. I'll call next time before I venture out and have bug spray to use after visiting the butterfly house."
