Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Alligator Creek Preserve for its beautiful, wild nature and abundant wildlife sightings, noting it as a peaceful escape with free entry. However, some find the limited hours of the visitor center and butterfly house disappointing, and the presence of numerous mosquitoes requires significant preparation.

"When visiting, I must admit timing is everything. Was here back in June, and I was on the trails for all of a few minutes before retreating back to my car because the bugs were out of control. Visited again late October with early morning temps in the high 60's and the visit was awesome with absolutely no problems with insects eating me alive. Saw a gator at the freshwater pond along with some fish and turtles. While walking through the Flatwoods trail, saw a feral hog, but couldn't get a good picture as he / she retreated further into the brush. Overall a great time to visit as it was not crowded and did not encounter anyone on the trails. Walked parts of the Three Lakes Trail, Pine Flatwoods Trail, and the Eagle Point Trail. Not sure if I'd return on the summer, but today's visit was by far my favorite visit. Walked just over 2.5 miles. May return to check out some of the other trails."

"So, we tried to find the bird blind but missed it I guess. Kept walking and thought we were on a trail. We saw markers and thought we were just walking it backward. lol. There was a bridge closed, no mention of the bridge being closed anywhere. Don’t recommend it but we weren’t willing to turn around because I wasn’t feeling well - We carefully and cautiously took the closed bridge. I do not condone but I felt ill. Needed to get back.

So we continued and ended up in the parking lot somehow. lol didn’t even come out where it said the eagle point trail started? Lololol anyway. We’re hearty folk so we were fun. I just needed some shade. Typically, we would have turned around. Now it makes sense why the trail we were walking was a little overgrown. 😅

Glad we went back to the alligator pond (?) and observation deck because we saw the alligator pictures.

We came on a day where the enviro center was closed (fine by us). We only saw like two families.

There are several trails. Easily walkable. We only did the one and spent a lot of time watching the alligator. Named it Harold. lol. He was super big! Didn’t seem to mind us one bit.

I def recommend going but I wish things were better marked. 😂"

"I will say a beautifully "wild" place to hike/walk, although I did hear a wild boar snort in the thicket which made my hair stand up on the back of my neck! The last three days I've been there for 3 to 4 mile hikes, I've only encountered 2 other hikers, so you're basically on your own. Enjoy, but be aware of your surroundings!"
