Behind this fence is the resting place of some of the most important and significant figures in American History. Sam Adams, Paul Revere, John Hancock and Crispus Attucks to name a few. I walk by this cemetery each day and often wonder what they would be thinking about the state of this country in this moment. I never saw something like this. Cheers to you Boston!!🇺🇸🏳️‍🌈🇺🇸🏳️‍🌈

Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Hancock Cemetery for its rich historical significance and its role as the resting place for ancestors of key American figures. While small, it offers a profound connection to the past and is a valuable stop for history enthusiasts and genealogists. Some note that many gravestones are eroded, making them difficult to read.

"In a region filled with historic cemeteries, this is the one to visit. Located just outside of Boston near several other places of historic significance, like the Adams NHP and the United First Parish Church, there are hundreds of 18th and 19th century gravestones here, many of them illegible from centuries of erosion. It’s pretty small and can be seen in a few minutes if you just want to walk around. JQ Adams original tomb is here, but if you’re interested in presidential burial sites be sure to check out the aforementioned church across the square, where JQ Adams’ remains were moved to, along with his wife and parents, John and Abigail Adams."

Ben Roth

"One of the oldest cemeteries in the greater Boston Metropolitan area and the whole country. Founded around 1640. The Reverend John Hancock, father of Declaration of Independence signer John Hancock is buried here. The founder of Quincy is buried here. Both John Quincy Adams and John Adams were originally buried here before being moved to the crypt under the United First Parish Church."
