Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Santa Ysabel Open Space Preserve West for its beautiful scenery, dog-friendly wide trails, and free admission. Many enjoy the oak woodlands and rolling hills, with some noting the opportunity to see wildlife. However, some find the trails steep and gravely, and caution is advised regarding ticks and the lack of shade during warmer months.

"Beautiful trail about an hour away from San Diego. Has a wide track which is a huge plus for walking a dog, which might not be friendly with other dogs. Lots of majestic oak trees ❤️ No fees and two portable bathrooms available in the parking lot. There are also a few picnic tables along the way. So it is a good idea to bring some food/drinks and enjoy them under an oak tree! Definitely recommend!!"

Volodymyr Korsun

"A hike that can be up to 4.5 miles round trip. However long, it's very nice and quite different from most hikes nationwide. The sun's rays were quite strong today, and I would recommend an early start during summer. Carrying water is a must for any hike over an hour, and will keep you fresh, especially during breaks under trees along the way. There is a climb out, but it's not too bad if you take your time. Santa Ysabel Creek makes a nice stop for lunch with a shaded picnic table nearby. Recommended."

Joseph Gallo

"Excellent hike in the rolling hills, steep and gravely at times so good shoes or boots are recommended. Love the vistas from chaparral to forest but lots of stunning views. I saw coyotes and eagles so keep an eye out."
