What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors generally praise the American River for its fun and scenic floating experience, with many highlighting the quality of rafts and helpful staff. However, some find the rental process nickel-and-dimed with extra fees for parking and transportation, and the need to carry rafts to the launch point can be inconvenient. The river itself is consistently described as beautiful and enjoyable, with seasonal variations in rapids offering different experiences.
"Fun day...but this is a review of the rental place!
But nickel and dime philosophy rental place First boat rental cost. Parking car cost.
Then you still need to CARRY your raft by yourself like 0.5 miles. Otherwise pay $30 for boat delivery. Ridiculous-- it should be delivery to riverbank INCLUDED--it's their choice to have place not at a riverbank. Most other rentals are right up against the water!
Then return bus cost. Really annoying. It was a converted OLD school bus. Btw bus ride back 15 min. The driver had the air conditioning on at full blast (even though it was 100+ outside today). Maybe a bit more gentle air con to not need to drastically acclimatize before and after ride! Also be aware it runs every half hour which is reasonable but if you had to wait in the hot sun at 100 for 30min when you've just missed ride, it might be quite unpleasant. So decide that before buying if an uber might be more reasonable.
The river and event itself is fun and river beautiful. August is late season so less rapids and slower floating(4hr). Plan for picnics and swimming stops! Beginning season April (from rains and snow melt) faster harder rapids (2hr tour)"

"If you decided to go this September, go early ! I will definitely come back again next season I would love to win the fourth draft! Unfortunately, September isn’t the time for a rafting because the flow will be too slow and we have to paddle by ourselves and end up being pick up early. But it’s overall pretty fine. Staff is very friendly and we have learned a lot from Don. I look forward to next season to be a visit and enjoy the water flow."

Navigating Rental Logistics
When considering the return trip, the shuttle bus is a common option provided by rental companies. However, feedback suggests that the bus schedule might be infrequent, and the ride can be a significant temperature adjustment. Some travelers have found it more convenient to arrange their own transportation, like ride-sharing services, to bypass potential waiting times or discomfort. It's wise to inquire about all included services and potential extra charges when booking your raft to avoid any surprises on the day of your adventure.
