Reviews Summary
Camp Catalpa Park is cherished for its natural beauty, especially the serene lake views and abundant trees, making it ideal for relaxation and birdwatching. Visitors appreciate the well-designed disc golf course, dog-friendly atmosphere, and family amenities like the playground and pavilions. While some miss the park's former secluded feel, the renovations have enhanced its usability for recreation and gatherings.
"This is one of my favorite places. I don’t play disc golf, though they have a great course. However, lots and lots of places to hang a hammock, even right on the water. This area is also protected as a bird sanctuary. So to just come and watch and listen is a great experience. I’ve always done well, for the most part when it come to fishing here. Good place to let the dog blow off some steam. Sometimes you get there and it’s empty and you can let the canine free range a bit. Decent playground. Really nice gazebo for grill outs, small parties for birthdays or what not. There is also another spot attached to the parking lot for family festivities. Every now and again there is small events at the park. This is just a gem. Diamond in the rough. Love this place. Special to me."

"Upon moving here to Richmond I rather liked the feel of this park before the renovations. It was nice, secluded and had a lot of nature and natural settings that made the walking paths of Camp Catalpa more enjoyable. Some of the animals that you used to see are no longer around. There used to be rabbits, all kinds of birds, and even a deer every now and then. Now the squirrels and birds are returning but not quite as much as before.
With the recent renovations it’s a more open space, with gravel walking trails and some that take you right by Lake Reba. There is a lot of space for frisbee golf, if you’re into that sort of thing. They have added a playground for children so they have a place to play. It still has the original pavilions, both you can reserve for family gatherings or events. And accessible bathrooms just in case you need to go after a long walk.
Overall, I like this location and the new path ways, but the old secluded feeling is gone. It used to be a location that if you wanted to be by yourself within a natural setting to maybe meditate or collect your thoughts."
