What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Railroad Museum of Long Island for its charming, interactive model train displays and friendly, knowledgeable staff. The miniature train ride is a hit with families, and the historical LIRR exhibits offer a glimpse into local rail history. Some note that certain exhibits are still under refurbishment, and the train ride's operation can be weather-dependent.
"Adorable old timey museum with fun and fascination for both kids and parents. Best for toddlers who can stand on the stools the museum provides to see their wonderful variety of working train sets and dioramas, with music, sound effects, lights, and interactive activities. Has indoor and outdoor spaces, a fun gift shop, and a cute train ride for all ages that makes three loops around the museum. The loveliest train enthusiasts work at this museum, constantly fixing up the trains, and everyone is so friendly. This place offers a wonderful, lowkey day of play that the whole family will love, at a very reasonable ticket price of $13 per adult, kids under 5 are free."

"I took my kids and parents one Saturday morning. The museum has a large model railway full of buttons to interact with. The gift shop has lots of Thomas trains, model trains and other model vehicles to purchase. They do have a few trains you can enter and see. But you can tell it's a work in progress. A lot of trains have yet to be refurbished and ready for visitors to enter. The train ride is nice but there's very little to see."

"Small but nice railroad museum, primarily on the surprisingly long history of the Long Island Railroad (LIRR). Displays include two steam locomotives, passenger and other train cars of the LIRR (some of fairly recent vintage), a rideable miniature train, and model train displays. The staff and volunteers were enthusiastic and helpful."
