What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Root River State Trail for its well-maintained paved path, stunning Bluff Country scenery, and access to charming towns like Lanesboro. It's a family-friendly destination offering opportunities for biking, hiking, and river activities. Some note it's more of a trail system than a traditional park with extensive facilities.
"So if you're picturing a full-blown "Park" with picnic tables and a visitor center, reset your expectations. This is more of a designated River Trail. We didn't see any counter or official park setup.
I dragged my tween away from house for this, and honestly, the 1.8 miles was just long enough to feel like we did something, but short enough that I didn't get too much complaining. It's a quick, easy loop.
I liked that you can either follow the river closely (good for nature photos that might actually make it onto their feed) or take the path inward, where there are a few little "check points" where you can get down to the water. It’s a nice, low-effort way to get some fresh air. Total family-friendly walk!"

"Beautiful place to hike and or go for a nature walk. Many deer trails if u want to go off trail. Trail goes by the river. Also a historic site aka a bridge made back in the 1800s . Many beautiful flowers and lots of squirrels.
Plenty of parking , picnic tables at parking area. Many benches along the trails . Plenty of people walking dogs as well ."

"Very well maintained trails, with a variety of options to walk. The trails USA app gives you a very accurate path to walk. There's plenty of wildlife, plants, and trees you can admire, and it even has a river! Definitely would recommend, but only for hiking, walking, or a campfire."
