What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Wegmans Pittsford is widely praised for its immense selection, high-quality prepared foods, and visually appealing store. Many consider it the 'best' grocery store experience. However, some recent reviews point to a decline in genuine customer service, with staff perceived as more focused on policy and appearances than customer needs, leading to disappointment for some long-time patrons.
"The best Wegmans. They have everything here. I like how it’s set up in this store. Also, they’re always trying new things. They have the smart carts now that you can try. They also have gluten free rolls at the sub station! Everything is very tidy, too."

"As someone who values genuine customer engagement, my recent visit to Wegmans in Pittsford on Monroe Ave left me disheartened. The store itself remains well-stocked and visually appealing, but the staff interactions felt transactional at best—and performative at worst.
When I asked a few basic questions, I was met not with curiosity or helpfulness, but with defensiveness. It was clear the priority wasn’t solving for the customer—it was maintaining appearances for management. The energy felt more like a rehearsal for a corporate visit than a sincere effort to connect with shoppers. Smiles were present, but warmth was missing.
There’s a noticeable shift in culture here: staff seem more concerned with how they’re perceived by leadership than how they’re experienced by customers. It’s a subtle but powerful difference—and one that undermines the trust and loyalty Wegmans once inspired.
For contrast, Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s consistently deliver a more human experience. At Trader Joe’s, team members engage with enthusiasm, often going out of their way to share product tips or make you feel welcome. Whole Foods, while more upscale, still manages to balance professionalism with authentic service. Both brands understand that customers aren’t just transactions—they’re relationships.
Wegmans Pittsford used to feel like a place where people mattered. I hope they find their way back to that."

"Visiting family, am a senior, and needed to cash $4.00 worth of dollars for quarters for laundry. Had just spent $550 there this week. Was told that Wegman's policy is that I could only get $3.00 worth of quarters. I begged them to cash another dollar. They refused, until there were 2 security men, and a manager, arguing with me for about 25 minutes, saying they couldn't break a policy, and cash another dollar. They told me Wegmans isn't a bank. I pointed out that it was 6 pm, and banks were closed. This isn't the community-oriented Wegmans it used to be. I'm done with Wegmans. It used to value customer service, but that was in the past. New administration? Overexpansion?
On another day last week, I ordered a medium chicken sub. There was a very large man with a large, ill-fitting shirt on, who made it. His shirt went into the sub, as his shirt fell over the counter. He made another one, instead, and it was touch-and-go as to whether he would be able to keep it from being contaminated. This was time-consuming, and I had a child with me for whom I had ordered a medium turkey sub. There were no condiments or vegetables used on that turkey sub. I did ask for cheddar cheese. There was one slice of cheese put on, cut in half, that covered about a quarter to a third of the turkey. I requested another slice be put on, and was told I would have to pay an extra $1.50 for it, as that again is Wegman's "policy". I pointed out it was a medium roll with only turkey on it, and we had been there a long time, since he had to make first sandwich twice per his contamination.
He and his colleagues insisted that the "policy" meant more than customer satisfaction.
I threw the sandwich away, because it was unpalatable.
Wegmans has changed. Only "policies", no customer service allowed."
