They did a fine restoration job. If on the island, also check out the museum, which just reopened after a renovation.
I need help getting on rock island arsenal.
So, I'm in a bit of a pickle... First off, my wife and I are Canadian, we drove 10hrs to get here. Second, my mother is buried in the cemetery in rock island arsenal. Third, there is no one available to escort us into the cemetery, and we're leaving tomorrow morning. Is there…

A series of truly indecipherable prototypes (?) I found on a photo while browsing Google maps, taken at the rock Island Armoury museum.
Awesome Museum, of course COVID closed. There is some info on each weapon available on site, however, it can be sparse. Mt guess, looking at the picture, is this SPIW time period. 1960s-79s prototypes.

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find the Rock Island Arsenal Museum to be a worthwhile, free stop offering a glimpse into the base's history and featuring notable exhibits like the Mk. VIII Liberty tank. While some note a streamlined, modern renovation has reduced the number of older displays, the focus on production and R&D remains informative. The need for a visitor pass and ID check is a key logistical point for all visitors.
"The museum is fine for what's there. The army released a memo about closing museums, so I wanted to visit before they closed it. That must've been much earlier in the making because 90% of what's in the old photos is gone. It's a very streamlined, modern, sterile, dark room that takes 10 minutes to walkthrough. You won't need chairs or benches, you won't be there long enough."

"First visit since childhood. The recent renovation definitely changed the look and feel of the museum. Really enjoyed the Mk. VIII Liberty tank display, to bad the interior couldn't be displayed.
Only thing I would change is having the Atomic Cannon display closer to the museum.
Free parking and free entry, but you must get a visitors pass to get on to Arsenal Island to visit."

"Worth a visit! It's free and goes into the history of the base which is fascinating!"
