What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Macktown Forest Preserve for its peaceful atmosphere, historical significance, and beautiful riverfront scenery, with many enjoying the chance to spot wildlife and participate in unique archaeology digs. However, some find the golf course overpriced and prone to slow play due to frequent tee times and a lax policy on music and dress code.
"The course is ok and they keep it up pretty good with a 6.8 out of 10. However they over book the tee times for every 7 minutes. So there is always a backup. Next they are super lax on dress and this can promote some goofy golfers who are more interested in blasting music and messing around. The price is high for what you get at $42 per player with cart. Many better deals out there. Silver lining is the greens were nice π."

"Very peaceful and has historical buildings on site. Gorgeous riverfront where 2 rivers converge. Great birds too."

"This week there was an archaeology dig at Macktown. I was able to participate in the dig, and learned more about the people who used to reside there.
The people who run the program are fantastic to be around because they are well educated and chock full of information about Macktown. They also have great archaeology humor and stories.
I would definitely recommend going to Macktown.
Plus, they have plenty of wildlife to look at. I saw a baby snapping turtle, a baby rabbit, humming birds, and an opossum. There were plenty of birds that I wasn't able to identify there too. It's great to be out in nature!"
