I found the spot! I had an early morning airport drop off so I stopped at Fort Snelling State Park afterwards. They don’t open until 8am, but you don’t even have to go into the park to get this view! Just park at the top of the hill, and take in the scenery. I was there for about 30 minutes and saw at least 10 planes (mostly @delta). Would you rather do this activity alone or with a friend? Many appreciate the abundance of wildlife and the peaceful atmosphere, noting it's an 'inner city gem.' Some mention the park's complex history adds depth to the experience.

"This is a really nice park. The trails are very wide and well-groomed even though they're dirt. With all the rain we've gotten recently my feet weren't even muddy. What's really neat about the trail. At least the pine Island trail. Is you're always walking along the river. Going in you're going down the Minnesota River and then in the middle is where the two rivers join and form one. And then coming back you follow the Mississippi.
Always views to look at! And lots of birds. I was lucky enough to see a barge pushing a very large shipment.
The trail was not too long either it was about 4.3 miles. And most of it was shade.
The nature center is really neat to a lot of history.
This one is definitely worth checking out!!"

"Very beautiful state park. TONS of parking for where ever you want to park and explore. The visitor building is really cool too, with a display talking about the history of the land. Very large place so despite a lot of people being there, it did not feel busy. Great place for family"

Grace Konnad

"Nice visitor center with bathrooms and a gorgeous hike along the rivers. Very busy on holiday weekends but it didn’t feel too crowded once you were beyond the parking lot. The trails were definitely accessible for some strollers and wagons with sturdy tires."
