Reviews Summary
Reviews for Chinatown Soledad Street Historic District highlight its vibrant cultural atmosphere and diverse culinary scene, with many praising the dedicated staff at the Navigation Center for their support in finding housing. However, some visitors have expressed concerns about safety due to the presence of drug use and homelessness in certain areas, particularly impacting the experience for families.
"Lights out aren't till 11pm if you're trying to work or go to school it's not the best shelter for you. There is clients having romantic relationships all night long. Staff sometimes sleep in the client area all night while it all happens. So many fentanyl users it all goes to the top of the co-ed tent and falls on all the clients. So if you have a family not the best shelter. There is no narcan on the premise and if you have a mental disability also not the best place for you. I woke up shaking after a night of clients using a drug I could smell on my skin apon wake up. It's a place to stay however not monitored during the evening for prostitution or drugs. If mental shelters want to reflect why they shouldn't be refunded this is not one of them. Regina the director is great can watch all video cameras in the facility minus the ones they cannot put in the sleeping area. She's just not always here. Only hypodermic needle disposal near where the staff sleeps and gives leniency apon favors (whatever they require that night) additionally no hypodermic needles allowed in sleeping area yest right where near staff sleeps there is definitely a disposal container."

"If you are homeless and in need of shelter AND help finding housing, there are some VERY special people at a local temporary shelter, (up to 6 months), who can help!!
The staff here are really pretty special. They are well trained and on duty 24/7. Good meals are provided AND you are warm, safe and comfortable at night.Workers are ALSO available to help assist you in finding housing. WOW!
Honestly, these folks are almost too good to be true! In all seriousness though, if you are dedicated to putting your efforts into finding low income housing, these people are committed to helping you. What a blessing!! Tim R"

"While some might shy away from a shelter in Chinatown, being inside the Navigation Center is worlds away from being homeless outside, in Chinatown or anywhere else. For anyone who is trying to change their circumstances by getting a job, other benefits, or permanent housing, The Navigation Center is the perfect first step. They don't care how you got there, only that you work to get to the next step on your way to a better life. Regina the Program Director, has an open door policy, and guests can always go to her with concerns or questions. Gloria, my Housing Navigator, went above and beyond to help with whatever I needed. All of the staff are people who truly care and work tirelessly to help people who stay there to get that step up they need. They provide you with basics like a bed to sleep in, a place to keep your belongings, food to eat, and showers. The program has many other benefits as well, but the real benefits are the people. The wonderful staff and the other guests, who are also trying to step up. They're a great source of information as well. If you truly want to get somewhere better than where you are, the Navigation Center is there for you. You only need to knock on the door."
