Devil's advocate here why should I support an LBS when my local REI has everything and does everything for a cheaper price?
I think for purchasing of bikes themselves, I can see the argument for buying them from an LBS esp if the price is the same/similar and they are keen to throw in other perks with the purchase. However, why would I buy a bike helmet for an extra 10% markup for a far worse return…

But then the employee hits me with: “Just order online and return them if they don’t fit.” Oh wow, thank you, retail genius, what would I ever do without that groundbreaking advice? So I get to freeze my money, play roulette with sizing, stand in line at the post office, and basically do YOUR job for you. If I wanted to order online, I wouldn’t have wasted gas walking into your store. Here’s a thought: instead of acting like a glorified mannequin, maybe actually provide service. Or better yet—let someone who gives a damn take your spot."
