What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Guests often praise the exceptional staff, high-quality entertainment, and delicious food, making it a top choice for families. However, some find the ship activities limited for older children and teens, and the cost can be a barrier for those expecting more 'magic' beyond the Disney branding. Disembarking can also be a lengthy process.
"NOT impressed, I expected more Magic. It's a cruise with a few bells and whistles here and there than other lines. Slightly catered to kids, but it's definitely not worth the money if you are expecting to see the magic. My recommendation is to take the 3 day Carnival Booze cruise to Ensenada and add a few days to take your family to Disneyland for two days; this will altogether cost you the same as three days on the Disney Wonder to Ensenada."

"The staff was wonderful, the food was good! I was disappointed that there wasn’t a lot to do on the ship. My son is 10 and the kids club was packed full of young kids (literally a line to get in) and he was too young for the teen club. The pool was tiny and packed most the time. The waves were unfortunately rough during our time, so the slide was closed most of the time and also made the theaters impossible for us to sit in and watch movies. We went to the top deck and watched the big screen, which was cool. We had a great time at Catalina Island and rode horses in Ensenada (we paid a quarter of the price off the ship than would have paid through Disney.) Though we had a good time, I would never do this cruise again or recommend it for the price we paid. We watched a lot of Disney movies!"

"Absolutely loved the Disney Wonder! Went on the 2-night HOTHS cruise and would do it again, minus feeling like I was still on a ship for days after going home! Service was top-notch and there were so many fun activities for all ages. The food was delicious and the entertainment is Disney-quality of course. I loved how people always had to wash or sanitize their hands. I would not take my family on any other cruise for a vacation if I can help it! Getting on the ship was an easy process, but getting off and to the car took over an hour!"

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Be prepared for the pool decks to be lively and potentially crowded, especially on sea days. While many activities are included, consider budgeting for extras like specialty desserts or souvenirs. The shows are universally appealing and a fantastic way to spend an evening together.
💑 Couples & Adults
Consider booking a cruise during a non-school holiday period if you prefer a more adult-centric vibe, though the ship always caters to all ages. The included dining is excellent, but a splurge on Palo can make a special occasion even more memorable.
💰 Budget-Conscious Travelers
To save money, consider booking shorter itineraries or sailing during off-peak seasons. Bringing your own non-alcoholic beverages can also cut down on costs. While specialty dining is an extra cost, it's not essential to enjoy the cruise.

In-depth insights and expert knowledge
The Magic of the Atrium
While visually stunning, the Atrium can become quite chaotic, especially during peak times like embarkation, before shows, or during character meet-and-greets. Some travelers find it overwhelming with the constant activity, including bands, character interactions, and access points to restaurants and guest services. However, for many, this vibrant energy is part of the quintessential Disney Cruise experience, offering a constant sense of wonder and excitement.
For those seeking a quieter experience, visiting the Atrium during off-peak hours – early morning or late at night – can offer a more serene atmosphere for photos and appreciation of its design. Regardless of your preference, the Atrium is undeniably a signature element of the Disney Cruise Line, setting the stage for a memorable vacation.
Dining Delights: Included vs. Extra
For those looking to elevate their culinary journey, specialty dining offers premium experiences at an additional cost. Palo, an adult-exclusive restaurant, is renowned for its exquisite Italian cuisine and is a popular choice for brunch or a romantic dinner. While not included, many guests find the exceptional quality and intimate setting to be well worth the splurge. Other premium options might include unique dessert experiences or specialty coffee bars.
When planning your budget, it's important to distinguish between what's included and what incurs an extra charge. While the core dining experience is robust and high-quality, factoring in a meal at Palo or a few specialty coffees can enhance your overall vacation. Remember to make reservations for Palo well in advance, as it tends to book up quickly.
Entertainment for Everyone
Beyond the main theater, the ships offer a variety of other entertainment options. Deck parties, often culminating in spectacular fireworks at sea, create a festive and memorable atmosphere. Character meet-and-greets are a huge draw, allowing families to interact with beloved Disney characters for photos and autographs, though lines can be considerable. Live music can be found in various lounges, providing a more relaxed ambiance for adults.
For younger guests, dedicated kids' clubs offer age-appropriate activities, crafts, and games, giving parents some downtime. Even the ship's design contributes to the entertainment, with themed areas and interactive elements, like the unique atrium experiences on newer ships. The variety ensures that there's always something engaging happening, from high-energy shows to more laid-back diversions.
