What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the San Diego Museum of Art for its beautiful building in Balboa Park and its collection of art masters, with special exhibits like Korean furniture and Eduardo Chillida receiving high marks. The museum's architecture and peaceful atmosphere are also frequently mentioned positives. Some visitors found certain modern art pieces less appealing, and admission costs can add up for families, though discounts are available.
"Beautiful building in Balboa Park with rotating collections of art. Their paintings include all the art masters you'd expect and some lesser known but great artists. Korean furniture exhibit was on display when we toured (it was excellent) and a room of modern art (not my thing). We spent an enjoyable 2 hours wandering the multiple levels."

"Monet! Dali! Matisse! Very cool art museum located in lovely Balboa Park. Quiet, peaceful, and well-maintained space. Staff members were very kind and welcoming. Spent about an hour and a half walking through the different exhibits. They seemed to be organized by time period/country of origin. Also checked out the gift shop which had some really cool artsy stuff. Military ID gets in for free. If you appreciate the different eras of art and you’re spending the day in Balboa Park, this museum is worth a stop."

"Pretty incredible — the SDMoA had a very concisely curated group of paintings from the early 20th and late 19th century. Artists included Manet and Cezzane. The detail was exquisite as were the probable restoration work. Paintings looked as if they were created a few days ago.
They charged $15 for family members, but my ticket was waived due to current enrollment in university."
