What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Torrey Pines Golf Course is widely celebrated for its breathtaking ocean views and championship-level play, particularly on the South Course. Visitors praise the well-maintained conditions and friendly staff, though the high cost for non-residents and occasional rough greens are noted drawbacks. It's a must-play for golf enthusiasts seeking an iconic California golfing experience.
"It was our first time and we played the North course. What an experience! The course was in great shape. The staff were courteous and friendly. The views were spectacular. The only note is for the players. Fix your divots people! We had delicious food and drinks in the Lodge Grille."
Elmer Tablizo
"Came here without a reservation on a Monday around 2pm and I was able to get a tee time at 3pm. The app makes finding a spot as a single very easy. The staff is knowledgeable and nice and will help you get out. It’s expensive for out of state golfers but worth it. The course is pristine and some really great views. The layout is good but nothing crazy. The north wasn’t too hard but had some great views of the ocean. Definitely come if in the area. Good for all levels of golfers."
Juan Chavez
"Great views and nice fairways. Greens were a little rough and watch out for the cross shots in this links style course. Great to check the box but won’t come back."

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids

💰 Budget Travelers

Navigating Torrey Pines: North vs. South
The North Course, while also a championship-caliber layout, is generally considered more forgiving and player-friendly. It offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and is often praised for its scenic beauty and enjoyable playability. Many golfers find the North Course to be a more accessible option, especially for those who aren't professional-level players, while still providing a memorable golfing experience.
When choosing between the two, consider your skill level, desired challenge, and what you prioritize in a golf round. The South Course is for those seeking a true championship test, while the North Course offers a beautiful and slightly more relaxed golfing adventure with spectacular coastal scenery.
The Cost of Playing a Bucket List Course
However, there's a significant advantage for San Diego residents. With a resident card, players can access much lower rates, making it a more feasible option for locals. Senior rates are also available, further reducing the cost for eligible golfers. This tiered pricing structure is common for municipal courses, aiming to provide access to the community while still generating revenue from visitors.
Beyond green fees, remember to factor in the cost of golf carts, which can add a considerable amount to your total. Club rentals are also available if you're traveling without your own equipment. While the price point is high for out-of-state visitors, many agree that the unparalleled views and championship pedigree make it a worthwhile investment for a memorable round.
Beyond the Fairway: The Torrey Pines Experience
The surrounding area also offers attractions that can enhance your visit. Adjacent to the golf course is Torrey Pines State Reserve, a protected natural area with hiking trails offering dramatic coastal vistas and unique flora. For those seeking an adrenaline rush, the Torrey Pines Gliderport nearby is a popular spot for paragliding and hang gliding, providing an even more spectacular aerial perspective of the coastline.
Whether you're a seasoned golfer or simply looking to enjoy the breathtaking scenery, Torrey Pines provides a multifaceted destination. The combination of world-class golf, beautiful accommodations, excellent dining, and proximity to natural wonders makes it a truly special place.
