"We walked by here on the way to the Palace of Fine Arts. We also ordered lunch online from Lucca Deli an awesome little Italian deli. We stopped by here and sat on the park benches on the green and admired the views of the water and Alcatraz.
A lovely place to walk around or just hang out and people watch. There lots of good places to order food from then gone here to eat and enjoy it and the killer views!
A good place to come and relax on a sunny day and we’d recommend the having lunch option here!"

"It's a great park to picnic, fly a kite, walk your dog, or just enjoy the view. It is the only flat open space in the city. Great views and our favorite place to watch Sail GP. It's so close to shore and you can hear the sails hum. Great views of Angel Island, Alcatraz Island and of course the city and Goldexn Gate Bridge."

The Marina District's Unique History
While the exposition's grand structures were largely demolished, the spirit of innovation and resilience remains. The neighborhood's architecture reflects this era, with many buildings showcasing Art Deco, Gothic Revival, and Beaux-Arts styles. However, the fact that much of the Marina is built on landfill makes it susceptible to soil liquefaction during strong earthquakes, a phenomenon that caused significant damage during the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.
Today, Marina Green stands as a testament to the area's transformation, offering a vibrant public space that contrasts with its historical context. It's a place where the city's past and present converge, providing stunning views and recreational opportunities.
Experiencing Fleet Week at Marina Green
The park provides an unparalleled vantage point for the air show, with attendees lining the waterfront to watch the precision flying. Beyond the aerial displays, visitors can explore the ships docked nearby and enjoy various family-friendly activities and entertainment. The atmosphere is electric, filled with patriotic fervor and the excitement of military aviation.
Attending Fleet Week at Marina Green requires strategic planning. Due to the immense popularity, expect significant crowds, traffic congestion, and limited parking. Public transportation, rideshares, or even biking are highly recommended. Many locals also suggest finding vantage points on nearby rooftops or even booking boat tours for a unique perspective of the festivities.
Photography Tips for Marina Green
To photograph Alcatraz Island, head towards the eastern end of Marina Green. The island stands prominently in the bay, and you can frame it against the city skyline or the open water. For a truly memorable shot, consider visiting during sunset, when the sky explodes with color, reflecting beautifully on the water and illuminating the landmarks.
During Fleet Week, Marina Green becomes a prime spot for capturing the Blue Angels. A telephoto lens is essential here to get detailed shots of the aircraft as they perform daring maneuvers. Many visitors also find success by combining their park visit with a boat tour for a unique angle on both the air show and the surrounding scenery.
