Buying a home- how's north of the 101?
Looking into possibly buying a house in the area north of the 101 (see pic), any recommendations/areas to avoid? Heard to avoid the wastewater plant- does anyone know how bad the smell gets/how far it drifts?…

Enclosed dog park areas?
I’m looking for a large, grassy, and enclosed area where I can practice recall with my dog. I’d love for it to be fenced off until we get better with listening just for my peace of mind. I’m not a huge fan of the dog parks that are super busy and just have dirt. Willing to drive…

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Joinville Park is a well-equipped community space with good athletic fields and a playground, though parking can be challenging on weekends. The Joinville Swim Center, however, receives significant criticism for safety issues like cold water and slippery floors, with many advising against its use until improvements are made.
"Decent turf field for soccer, plus a baseball field, as well as a large grassy area for other sports. There is also a play structure for young kids, and a picnic table area with a useful bathroom. Parking lot is usually pretty packed on the weekends, but there’s plenty of street parking within a 5 minute walk."

"SAFETY WARNING – PLEASE READ BEFORE ENROLLING YOUR CHILD
I’m writing this review to help prevent a potential tragedy and to protect other families from what could turn into a serious liability for the City of San Mateo.
I brought my toddler to Joinville Swim Center hoping for real swim instruction. Instead, we experienced the following:
Unqualified Instructors: Classes were led by teens with no apparent training, just reading nursery rhymes like “Itsy Bitsy Spider.” There was no actual swim instruction.
Cold Pool: Despite claims of 85°F water, the pool was freezing. Kids were visibly shivering, as were the parents.
Ice-Cold Showers & Outdated Facilities: Showers are old, and water takes minutes to warm up, if at all. Kids stood freezing and crying while waiting, made worse by the open, windy facility design.
Extremely Slippery Locker Room: The tile floors near showers are dangerously slick, with no safety mats. My daughter slipped, hit her head, and we had to rush her to the ER. This is a lawsuit waiting to happen.
Unresponsive Management: Michelle, the manager, admitted she read my messages but has yet to cancel our remaining classes or respond.
Until the following issues are fixed, I strongly advise parents to stay away:
1. Install slip-resistant mats in wet areas.
2. Ensure warm, functioning showers.
3. Hire trained, certified swim instructors who would really train kids on how to start swimming or move hands and legs. Supper basic stuff!
Michelle, please confirm cancellation of my daughter’s remaining classes. I hope this message encourages immediate action for everyone's safety."
