What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find the Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery to be a peaceful and historically rich landmark, appreciating the efforts of volunteers in its restoration. While some express concern over the cemetery's upkeep and city funding, many enjoy it as a quiet place for reflection, dog walking, and photography, highlighting its value as a well-preserved public space.
"As I walked through the Odd Fellows Cemetery, my destination was the historical Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery along side it. Dating back to 1854, the Rural Cemetery first laid to rest a man that came to California by wagon train. This beautiful Cemetery was restored by volunteers after years of neglect. There are soldiers buried here dating back to the War of 1812, up to more modern conflicts. Victims of the 1906 earthquake were also brought here for a final resting place after the tragic event. There is alot of history here. An act of vigilante justice in the Cemetery took place in the 1920's as three men were hung for shooting deaths of law enforcement officials. I enjoyed my time here and will return with my wife so that I can share this experience."

"The condition of this cemetery is an embarrassment; absolutely no respect for the dead. Are we as citizens ok with the city spending our tax dollars to put up some new facade of justice courthouse designed to lock people away for profit while meanwhile they cry poor and can't even afford to maintain our cemeteries and ask for volunteers to do the landscaping? I Am Not! This is a disgrace and the people's voice needs to be heard, these corrupt officials need to be held accountable!"
Collin Mitchell Brodeur
"This is a historic cemetery, so it feels like you can walk through history. Very peaceful place for dog walking, jogging, strolls, and quiet contemplation. It might seem odd to want to visit a cemetery, but it feels like a well preserved public space that's open to everyone"
