Reviews Summary
Visitors find the Everhart Museum to be a charming and affordable cultural hub in Scranton, offering a diverse range of exhibits from natural history to local art. While some note its smaller size, the friendly staff and unique collections, especially the folk art and bird displays, make it a worthwhile visit for many.
"Earhart has a very wide range of exhibits with a significant folk art collection, natural history displays, geological displays with a focus on local artists (which I love). Tickets are very reasonable and free for Military. We were expecting a small discount but since they were free we made a donation equal to or above ticket costs. The museum is well maintained and staffed with knowledgeable and pleasant staff. The grounds were in good shape but I could see more work was needed on the grounds. Back to the museum, we enjoyed all exhibits. Local artists are also featured at the basement level, near the restrooms so please don’t miss the basement. Museum has a small elevator and easy stairs, and a total of 3 floors. We were sad we will miss upcoming “The Office” exhibit. A very nice museum for a small-ish town."

"Very good place, however, the only drawback that it is small... the museum has a quite large collection of birds, and some dinosaur fossils... the top floor is an art place, however, the collections there are... some are interesting, and others are...
Overall not bad, hence the 4 stars, however, it's really three with an extra star for the birds..."

"A great piece of Scranton history. I highly recommend stopping in, even if you’ve been before. My friends joke it’s a good spot for a date, there’s nothing more romantic than the bird room."

A Glimpse into the Collections
Beyond these core areas, the museum also showcases local artists, with rotating exhibits on the third floor and in the basement. These displays highlight the creative talent within Scranton and the surrounding Pennsylvania region, offering a dynamic and ever-changing artistic landscape. The museum has also hosted specific exhibits, such as a featured display on local fiber artist Peg McDade.
It's worth noting that while the collections are varied, some visitors find certain art collections on the top floor to be more niche in appeal compared to the universally engaging natural history exhibits. However, the overall breadth ensures there's something to pique the interest of most visitors.
Navigating the Museum: Accessibility and Layout
For those requiring specific accessibility features, a handicap-accessible bathroom is available on the ground floor. However, it's important for visitors to be aware that as an older structure, some doorways between galleries can be quite narrow. While manageable for many, those using larger mobility devices like electric scooters might find these passages tight. The museum staff's helpfulness is key in navigating these potential challenges.

They have hosted art adventure workshops for children, such as themed events for holidays like St. Patrick's Day, providing creative outlets for younger visitors. These community-focused initiatives, from large-scale art projections to family-friendly workshops, underscore the Everhart Museum's role as an educational and cultural center that aims to enrich the lives of Scranton residents and visitors alike.
