The adventurous drive through the San Juan Mountains is a major highlight, though the rough road necessitates a capable 4x4 vehicle. Some find the remoteness and lack of facilities a drawback, but most agree the unique experience is well worth the effort.

"Animas Fork is about a twelve mile trip from silverton. Only the last seven or so miles get kind of rough. The trip is only doable with a high clearance vehicle like a jeep or pickup. The trip takes about an hour each way. There is a lot of history to see and a lot of beauty along the way. It makes one wonder what it was like living there back in the 1880s before the modern conveniences that we have today. Well worth the trip in."

"The Gold Prince Mill is a fascinating piece of Colorado mining history! This old mill structure offers a glimpse into the area's rich mining past, with its weathered framework standing as a testament to the region's gold rush era. While it's tempting to explore closely, it's important to note that the structure can be unstable - best to appreciate this historic site from a safe distance. Perfect stop for history buffs and photographers wanting to capture some authentic Colorado mining heritage. Remember to exercise caution and respect the site's historical significance."
