What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Kykuit for its stunning architecture, meticulously maintained gardens, and impressive art collection, offering a captivating glimpse into the Rockefeller family's legacy. The knowledgeable guides and breathtaking Hudson Valley views are frequently highlighted as major draws. Some visitors note the extensive walking and stairs, and the restriction on interior photography, but overall, it's considered a highly rewarding historical and cultural experience.
"I took the 3-hour "Grand Tour" as my first visit to the estate, and even though the "Classic" tour is recommended for first-time visitors, I'm glad I splurged a bit and took the comprehensive tour instead. Our group was very, very small, which made it feel like a private tour at times. Our guide, Tatyana (I hope I'm not misspelling her name) was wonderful. She's very knowledgeable and patiently responded to all our questions, providing even more interesting details that enriched the experience even further. The tour is provided by the Historic Hudson Valley organization. It starts at the Philipsburg Manor, and a bus ride to and from the Kykuit estate is included with all tours.
The estate is such an amazing place: full of history, art, and jaw-dropping views of the Hudson river. The three hours of the tour went by very quickly and we had a chance to appreciate the estate at an enjoyable pace. The gardens, the house, and all art installations are incredible. One thing to consider, though, is that the pathways used are not wheelchair-accessible, and comfortable shoes are strongly recommended.
Visiting Kykuit was one of the highlights of my trip to the Hudson Valley area, and I hope I can repeat this experience in future."

"This place had a few delightful surprises!! Definitely do the upstairs/downstairs tour to see the amazing artwork. I had a fantastic tour guide; his name is Colin. Very enthusiastic and knowledgeable and patient. Do get your tickets ahead of time because it's a popular place; at least it was in October. Interior photos are not allowed."

"We did the Grand tour. Our guide, Dana, was very knowledgeable about the house and gardens. It was a drizzly day so we didn't get as much outside but additional spots were added on the inside. There are a lot of stairs. It is always fascinating learning about people from the past."
