"Standing as the oldest structure on Solomons Island, the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory's visitor center was constructed around 1780 and once served as the home of Isaac Solomon - the Delaware-born namesake of the island that built the largest oyster cannery on the Chesapeake Bay.
Over the several hundred years that the building has stood, many alterations have been made, including the addition of an exterior gate and internal purpose and safety modifications.
