However, some visitors note that the park's facilities, including the pavilion and picnic areas, could benefit from better maintenance and modernization.
"A beautiful park on South Haven's north side. Stanley Johnston Park is a great place to spend an afternoon. There is a pavilion with restrooms and picnic tables. A small playground with swings for all ages and one that is handicap accessible. There is also a basketball court and picnic tables spread throughout the park. The trees here are the largest in town. They provide outstanding shade and are amazing to just lie down and gaze at their canopy. This is a great place to spend an afternoon with the family, have a picnic, or even relax with a good book."

"Spent a week in the South Haven north beach area and every trip over the drawbridge walked past this park. Also walked its perimeter path trail which had slightly different elevations, stairs and was heavily wooded. It had a shelter / picnic area that could use some cleaning/modernization. A few open areas but not of significant space mostly trees. The front is along the street with tge drawbridge and the rear by Black River. They were preparing vendor booth spaces for the annual blueberry festival,"

"Nice little side park before the beaches. A place to walk, relax, let the kids play and also connect to the Harborwalk Trail."
