Don’t forget to stop by this epic viewpoint when you’re at Lake Tahoe! 📍Emerald Bay State Park (South Lake Tahoe) This specific location is not officially on Google Maps though. It says there’s an official Emerald Bay lookout but this spot is just along a turnout. You can look out for this just before the Eagle Falls parking lot. I recommend using Google Maps Street view to this this spot so ...

Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently rave about the breathtaking beauty of Emerald Bay, calling it an enchanting and unforgettable spot with stunning vistas of the bay and Fannette Island. While the views are universally praised, the primary drawback is the significant challenge of finding parking, especially during peak times, often requiring an hourly fee. The hike down to the water is steep but rewarding for those who undertake it.

"Amazing view and Historical past. There is a path to view also the tea house has history to learn about. There's no dogs are allowed on trail so I was able to see the historical end of it. However I did enjoy the view from a top, pay a parking fee and enjoy."

Robert Gamez

"Absolutely beautiful vistas from this lookout. Emerald Bay is an absolutely enchanting spot. The only drawback, on a beautiful summer's day is getting parked. We were lucky that a family who were leaving were kind enough to assist us in taking the space they were vacating. It was a hot day and after a long drive we did not follow the trail down to the water's edge - but lots of people were doing that. Instead we contented ourselves with the beautiful views from the lookout."

Bernard Savage

"Lovely hike to reach the Emerald Bay. Going up hike is harder but no rush to climb. The view is amazing. The water is cold to swim but you can try. There is a waterfall when you reach the base of Emerald bay and take the Rubicon Trail. It is short and easy hike to reach the stream.
Have some jacket with you in these days.
The only boring thing is tight parking space. You need to wait a little bit if you reach there around noon."

Navigating Parking and Access

Parking at Emerald Bay State Park is notoriously difficult, especially during peak season (summer and weekends). The main lookout parking lot and the lot near Vikingsholm fill up extremely early, often by 9 AM. Reddit Visitors often resort to parking along the narrow Highway 89, which can be dangerous and lead to ticketing. To combat this, a new Emerald Bay Shuttle service was introduced, running daily from July 15th to October 15th, 9 AM to 5 PM. This shuttle is highly recommended as the most hassle-free way to access the bay and avoid parking frustrations. TikTokInstagram

For those who do find parking, be aware that there is an hourly fee, typically around $10. Reddit The trail down to the water's edge from the lookout is a steep, paved service road, about a mile long. While manageable for most, it can be strenuous on the return trip uphill. Many visitors choose to enjoy the stunning views from the lookout without making the descent. Reddit

Key takeaway: Plan your visit around the shuttle service or aim for very early morning arrivals on weekdays to maximize your chances of securing parking. TikTokReddit
