"What an adorable museum! The Railroad Historical Museum was a must-see in Springfield for any railroad enthusiasts or train aficionados. I love trains--and since my husband loves me, he tagged along. Since it is only open from 2-4 p.m. on Saturdays (it relies on donations and volunteers), it is something you'll likely need to plan in advance. Parking is a bit weird to find, but head for the giant locomotive you can see by the street. Part of the museum allows you to walk through real train cars, set up with photos, news articles, models, dioramas, and real passenger train supplies. You can also ring the train bell and toot a horn (fun for kids and big kids alike!). There is also an exact replica of a little station you can walk through with more things to see. All volunteers were super nice and answered all the nerdiest questions I had with the utmost of patience. I felt no pressure to buy things or donate (in fact, I think it would benefit them to make the donation box a bit bigger and more noticeable; they truly deserve it). Lovely people, lovely place. If I lived in the area I would consider volunteering myself. Highly recommended!"
