What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Watershops Pond Lake Massasoit is appreciated for its peaceful atmosphere and recreational opportunities like fishing and paddling. While not suitable for swimming, it offers a valuable natural escape within the city, with residents enjoying direct water access. Some visitors note the need for better trash management to preserve its beauty.
"Who would have known that Watershops Pond was created by the damming of the Mill River over 100 years ago. My dad used to speak of winter skating on the pond - one of the few places to get to and to enjoy, given that these were Great Depression years. He and his brothers also went there to get ice to fill the "ice box" for their refrigerator.
And now? Well, as we know, the water isn't clean enough in which to swim, but many people like to fish there, on the way down from the General Edwards Bridge (the only bridge that spans Roosevelt Ave), and you'll see many residents who have a walkway down to the pond and can launch their kayaks from their homes. There is, however, the need for anyone near the water not to leave trash there.
And there's something of a $250,000 park to be installed on Alden St, not far from the entrance to Springfield College. Should be interesting!"
