Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the stunning panoramic views from Standing Indian Mountain, often calling it the 'Grandstand of the Nantahalas.' The hike is described as manageable even for those out of shape, with the summit campsite being a highlight for overnight stays. Some note the presence of tree roots as a minor challenge on the trail.

"Stopped here on a backpacking trip - snagged the summit campsite though I hear it gets busy. Unfortunately had to leave from a severe thunderstorm rolled through."

John

"A fabulous mountain hike that also lies on the Appalachian trail, and you will definitely want to stop by the peak on your way!

I hiked this recently on my recent adventure in Franklin, and even for someone that is totally out of shape as myself, I had a relatively easy time getting up here! I'd say it was roughly maybe an 1.5 to 1.75 hours one way, so definitely start no later than by 12:00 or 1:00 p.m. if you plan on hiking all the way to the peak and back! There are also a few spots for a campground along the way.

Park at the Deep Gap Parking Lot to access this place. One other thing I should mention is that at the beginning of your hike, along with towards the end on your way back down, there are a ton of tree roots sticking out of the ground that definitely will add an obnoxious layer of faux difficulty for maybe the first 0.4 miles or so of the mile and a half trek to the top"

"Took two of my grandchildren up here for an up-and-down hike from deep Gap. A great hike for the three of us."
