"We were in Stonington on a short tour of the CT shoreline to visit many places we have been over the years.
Walking down the peninsula to the southern tip, we stopped at the 1840 stone light house. It is a great piece of history and I am thankful they have saved it.
There are a lot of tourists walking around and this is a popular stop.
$10 for seniors to enter.
Very picturesque."

"The lighthouse was closed when we got there, but there is a quite lawn towards the back to which you can go to. Great views of the water and the boats sailing by. There is parking for about 50 cars at the end and a small beach nearby. There are benches in the parking lot along with picnic tables."

"A cute little lighthouse, small one with only 29 steps. The ladder to the top was kind of sketchy but it was doable. Only a $5 fee, support the lighthouse. View from the top was gorgeous and I was able to see another lighthouse from the top."

Exploring the Stonington Lighthouse Museum
While the interior may have a modest climb of 29 steps and a 'sketchy' ladder to the very top, the effort is rewarded with gorgeous views of the surrounding waters, boats, and even other distant lighthouses. The museum's preservation is supported by visitor admission fees, which are typically around $5-$10, with senior discounts available.
Even when the museum is closed, the grassy grounds offer a tranquil space for picnics and enjoying the coastal ambiance. The proximity to a small beach and the overall quaintness of the neighborhood add to the charm of a visit.
Photography at the Lighthouse
The most rewarding photographic experience is often from the top of the lighthouse. The panoramic views encompass the sparkling water, the constant movement of sailing boats, and the distant silhouettes of other navigational aids. This elevated perspective provides a unique vantage point for landscape and seascape photography.
Beyond the structure itself, the surrounding grassy grounds and waterfront provide ample opportunities for capturing the essence of coastal life. Whether it's the gentle lapping of waves, the moored boats, or the expansive sky, photographers will find plenty to inspire their shots. The quaint neighborhood surrounding the lighthouse also adds to the visual appeal.
